1. Overview

ZenIELTS (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides an online IELTS preparation platform, including mock tests, AI-graded practice, live classes, flashcards and an AI speaking partner. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use ZenIELTS, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By creating an account or otherwise using ZenIELTS, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please don't use the platform.

2. Information we collect

Account information. Name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash — we never store or can see your plain-text password) when you register as a student, or when an admin invites you as a teacher.

Profile & study data. Your target band score, study plan, mock test answers and scores, flashcard decks you create, and progress/streak statistics.

Content you submit for grading or practice. Writing responses, speaking recordings/transcripts, and part-practice submissions you send for AI or teacher grading.

Live class data.If a class you join uses our Zoom integration, your name and email may be passed to Zoom to generate your join link; we don't receive a recording or transcript of the class itself unless a teacher chooses to share one.

Communications. Messages you send to support, chatbot conversations, and any content of emails we send you (e.g. verification codes, class reminders).

Technical data. IP address, browser/device type, and basic usage logs (pages visited, features used) collected automatically to keep the service secure and working correctly.

Sign-in via Google. If you use “Sign in with Google”, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google to create/verify your account. We do not receive your Google password.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account, and verify your email address before granting access.
  • To deliver the core service: mock tests, AI/teacher grading and feedback, live classes, flashcards, and study-plan recommendations.
  • To generate AI grading, feedback and speaking-practice responses (see Section 4 below).
  • To send transactional emails — verification codes, password resets, class/invitation notifications.
  • To monitor, debug and improve platform performance and reliability.
  • To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or violations of our terms.

4. AI features & third-party processing

ZenIELTS uses third-party AI providers to power real grading and feedback — this is not simulated. Content you submit for grading or speaking practice (your written answers, speech transcripts/audio, and chat messages to the AI tutor) is sent to one or more of the following providers strictly to generate your result or response:

  • OpenRouter / Anthropic — for AI grading of writing/speaking submissions and the AI chat tutor.
  • ElevenLabs — to generate spoken audio for the AI Speaking Partner. If your browser falls back to on-device text-to-speech instead, no audio leaves your device.

These providers process your content to return a result to you and, per their own policies, may retain data briefly for abuse-prevention purposes — they do not use your submissions to identify you personally. We do not sell this content to anyone.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only:

  • With service providers who help us run ZenIELTS — hosting, email delivery (Resend), AI grading providers, and video-conferencing (Zoom) — bound to use it only to provide their service to us.
  • With your teacher(s) and course admins, to the extent needed to grade your work, track your progress, and run the classes and courses you're enrolled in.
  • If required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety and security of ZenIELTS or its users.
  • With your consent, or at your direction.

6. Cookies & sessions

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in (session tokens) and to remember your preferences. We don't use third-party advertising trackers. You can clear cookies from your browser at any time, though you'll need to sign in again afterwards.

7. Data retention

We keep your account and study data for as long as your account is active, so you keep access to your history, progress and results. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we're required to keep certain records for legal, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all traffic, salted password hashing, and access controls on our servers and database — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to continually improve our protections.

9. Children's privacy

ZenIELTS is intended for IELTS candidates, typically 16 years or older. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Your rights & choices

You can, at any time:

  • Access, update or correct your account details from your profile settings.
  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
  • Withdraw consent for optional communications (e.g. notification emails).

To exercise any of these, email us at the address in Section 12.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as ZenIELTS evolves. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or an in-app notice before they take effect. The “last updated” date below always reflects the current version.
